Profile
Dr. Suzanne Wood is a sociologist and school ethnographer whose research emphasizes how race, class, gender and power shape the everyday realities of students and teachers in K-12 Elementary Schools. She holds a Ph.D. In Sociology from the University of Notre Dame, and a MA in sociology from the University of Victoria. Her dissertation examines the multiple levels of pressure that teachers experience when teaching in low-income schools in the current moment of high-stakes testing and teacher accountability. Suzanne’s research emphasizes how effective policy decisions at the district- and school- levels require a complex understanding of daily classroom life. Through this research, she aims to contribute to more equitable and inclusive educational practices and policies.
Dr. Wood is a research affiliate with the Center for Research on Educational Opportunity (CREO), and former Burns Fellow with the Program for Interdisciplinary Education Research (PIER) at Notre Dame. Prior to her doctoral studies she earned her BA in Sociology cum laude from Columbia University in the City of New York and worked as a Research Assistant at a research consulting firm specializing in the evaluation of government social programs.
