Profile

Carly is a member of the 2020 cohort and Presidential Fellowship recipient in the Department of Sociology. She received her BA in Sociology from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2017, where she graduated summa cum laude with research honors. Prior to starting graduate studies at Notre Dame, she worked as Assistant Director of Admissions for Illinois Wesleyan. She is particularly interested in identity and solidarity within subcultures, and past work has engaged pop culture and consumerism in the witchcraft community and community-building at a steampunk-themed tea shop. Her dissertation examines motivation and solidarity among solitary religious practitioners within Contemporary Paganism.
