Jessica Welburn Paige is an Assistant Professor of Sociology and African American Studies at the University of Iowa. Her research interests include social mobility, urban inequality, racism and antiracism and the experiences of African Americans in the post-Civil Rights Era. Her work has been published in a number of outlets including Ethnic and Racial Studies, The Journal for African American Studies and The DuBois Review for Social Science Research. In addition, she is a co-author of the book Getting Respect: Responding to Stigma and Discrimination in the United States, Brazil and Israel with Michèle Lamont, Graziella Silva, Joshua Guetzkow, Nissim Mizrahi, Hannah Herzog and Elisa Reis (Princeton University Press 2016). She is currently completing a book manuscript, Die Hard City: Public Sector Contraction and the Experiences of African Americans in Detroit (forthcoming with Columbia University Press), which is focused on the experiences of working- and middle-class African Americans in Detroit, MI.
