Career Choices

While graduates with advanced degrees in the field of sociology tend to accept positions with the “sociologist" in the title, graduates at the B.A level secure positions in fields both within and outside the discipline.

All of the positions listed below are open to and appropriate for sociology graduates, because they require the skills and theoretical perspective secured through sociological training. In the end, your special interests, course choices, experiences, and work-setting preferences will help you decide what exactly you wish to pursue.

In addition to the positions listed here, sociologists work in many other professional arenas, including positions of political and national leadership. For example, civil rights leaders Jesse Jackson and Ralph Abernathy earned B.A.s in sociology.
