Profile
Nicolás earned a Licenciatura (1999) and M.A. (2004) in Sociology from the Universidad de la República (Uruguay), where he taught classical social theory, research methods, and sociology of education. He arrived at Notre Dame in 2004 and earned an M.A. in Sociology in 2006. Now he is working on his dissertation, which is a historical-comparative study of insurgencies against central governments in four Latin American countries (Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Uruguay) from independence to early twentieth-century. In the Spring of 2009 he joined the sociology department at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile as an assistant professor. There he teaches political sociology and social movements.
