Dr. Halton is the author of Bereft of Reason: On the Decline of Social Thought and Prospects for its Renewal (University of Chicago Press, 1995); Meaning and Modernity (University of Chicago Press, 1986); and co-author of The Meaning of Things: Domestic Symbols and the Self (Cambridge University Press, 1981), which has been translated into Italian, German, and Japanese. He is writing a book of essays on American culture.
